American Institute of Architects Thrives Under CEO’s Decisions

The American Institute of Architects is a United States organization that offers support for professional architects. This support comes in the form of government advocacy, education, community redevelopment and public outreach programs. While the AIA was founded in New York City, its headquarters is now in Washington DC. Robert Ivy is the current CEO of the American Institute of Architects.

Beginning in 1857, the American Institute of Architects was build up from nothing by thirteen prominent architects who believed in growing the practical perfection of future members. One of the original thirteen members, Richard Upjohn, served as AIA’s first president. Their numbers quickly grew as sixteen more people were invited to join only a few weeks after the institute’s first session. In March of the same year the American Institute of Architects wrote its own bylaw and formed its constitution that all members would have to act by.

The institute flourished and continued to accept new members. Even architects from other cities began to ask if they could join. Due to its, chapters began opening up in major cities all across the United States. Currently, there are over three hundred chapters of the American Institute of Architects. To accommodate the ever expanding number of members, the original New York City location went though several renovations before it was decided to move the headquarters to Washington DC. There was a design contest to find an architect to build the new site, but the winner failed to earn the United States Commission of Fine Arts’ approval.

In 2011 the American Institute of Architects acquired a new CEO and Executive Vice President, Robert Ivy. Ivy has decades of experience by both working as an architect and being a member of the AIA. Under his leadership Ivy has strengthened the AIA by increasing public outreach, advocacy and education so that other members can help current and future clients handle the changes that architecture faces.

Robert Ivy not only manages the almost 100 thousand members of the American Institute of Architects, spanning across hundreds of chapters, he also has brought the AIA into the modern age. He has done this by helping build a digitally based technology infrastructure, improving member decision-making by streamlining governance and increasing public awareness though an award-winning campaign. Ivy has brought great pride to the American Institute of Architects and made it responsive, proactive and influential for both members and clients.

The organization has over 40 experts worldwide that monitor the rights of journalists, and whenever a violation is reported, CPJ takes action through its correspondents to represent the victims.

Formation of the organization was inspired by harassment of a Paraguayan journalist, Alcibiades Delvalle. CPJ since 1991, has been holding special dinner to award and recognize the journalists who have endured beatings, received threats or intimidation or even thrown to prison for performing their duties.

CPJ conducts research globally, to get a clear picture of potential threats to freedom of press globally, then they document their finding in two popular magazines namely, Dangerous Assignments and Attacks on the Press, a survey magazine produced annually.

Through the magazines, CPJ publishes the survey of journalists who have been killed while working. For instance, in 2016, CPJ reported that 48 journalists lost their lives in the line of duty compared to 78 n the previous year. Some of the journalists die in combat or caught in the mid of crossfire while covering wars.

Besides those killed, CPJ also has the statistics of journalists thrown to prison.

CPJ has some similarities with Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund which was founded by two journalists; Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The two journalists were imprisoned in connection with their work and also the fund advocates for freedom of speech.

CPJ has the mission of empowering and encouraging journalists around the world to report the news without fear. It does this by taking immediate action whenever a journalist is attacked, taken to prison, killed, kidnapped, intimidated, or harassed.

CPJ believes that their actions are justified because journalism is a very vital part of society and it provides a link between the people and the government. So, by protecting the journalists, CPJ protects freedom of speech as well as promoting democracy.

Imran Haque Applauds Innovative Digital Pill

Dr. Imran Haque, a primary care doctor at Horizon Internal Medicine in North Carolina is excited about FDA approval for the digital pill, and says it will be helpful as new avenues of treatment are added. “I think the new system is an innovative way patients and their caregivers can learn about therapeutic management,” says Dr. Haque.

For the pharmaceutical company, Otsuka, which develops drugs for mental illness for the past 25 years, such treatment is also new. The introduction of Abilify MyCite should therefore be carried out very carefully with some selected health providers, the company said. These healthcare partners would in turn identify a small number of patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and severe depression. This would allow professionals to gain experience, and show how the system works. Abilify MyCite is a joint medical development by Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Proteus Digital Health.

According to Imran Haque, people who need to take medication regularly could appreciate the digital pill. For example, if patients forget their scheduled daily medication their internist could remind the patient with an SMS message. “The most important feature is that doctors can monitor the actual physical use of the drug,” says Dr. Haque. How It Works

When patients take this digital pill, integrated with a microchip, it becomes activated with the gastric juice from the stomach. From this point, data on body temperature, heart rate, and even the time the pill is ingested can be collected. The patient data transmits directly to the attending physician, who can then respond quickly to changes or deviations.

Demonstrating Clinical Excellence

Dr. Imran Haque offers residents in North Carolina his expertise and care, and his patients benefit from advanced knowledge at Horizon’s Internal Medicine Center. He provides expert diagnosis and treatments for various conditions. He’s backed by a full staff of fellow physicians and complimentary nursing staff.

Dr. Haque received his medical degree from Santo Domingo’s Universidad Iberoamericana University, and his Master’s of Internal Medicine in the Roanoke-Salem program.
